BELLO Digital Tales, Exploring the Intersection of AI, Photography, and Painting

Article by Stéphane Marquet BELLO Media Group Creative Director

In the ever-evolving realm of contemporary art, the emergence of Artificial Intelligence as a creative force has ignited a fascinating exploration of the intersections between photography and painting. As an artist with years of experience in both painting and photography, I’ve discovered that AI-powered tools align more closely with what I perceive as painting rather than photography.

However, amidst the excitement and innovation, there exists a persistent misconception: the tendency to compare AI-generated images directly to what we traditionally understand as photography.

Photographers often seem to be the initial group to voice concerns about the widespread adoption of AI by others. Undoubtedly, it represents a democratization of content creation, with costs approaching zero. As a photographer, I don’t perceive AI as a threat to my art. Instead, it feels like the opening of a creative vortex that I once would have considered impossible. Just as some purist painters may view digital tools as cheats, I see my camera as a means to capture my unique perspective of the world around me. For me, photography is not just about capturing what’s in front of the lens, it’s about playing with angles, manipulating light, and altering perceptions to convey my personal interpretation of the world.

view AI as a tool that extends the boundaries of my creativity into a realm where, much like in painting, I can recreate, embellish, or approach the world from an abstract perspective. It serves as a catalyst for innovation, allowing me to explore new dimensions of expression in my work. In many ways, AI-generated images represent the democratization of expression, a shift that parallels the democratization of art itself.

Long before the invention of cameras, painters were masters of manipulating reality, infusing their creations with elements of imagination to produce truly unique works of art. This artistic tradition, rooted in the human desire to transcend the confines of reality, laid the groundwork for the creative experimentation we witness today.

AI serves as a catalyst for democratizing the creative process, enabling individuals to explore and experiment with their artistic visions in ways that were previously unimaginable. No longer confined to the realm of trained artists or elite institutions, creativity becomes a truly democratic endeavor.

Bello Digital Tales will delve into the realms of fashion, art, and destinations, sometimes it will be nostalgic approach of our reality, or a touch of futuristic whimsy.
