The Next Star-Studded Streaming Service
In April 2020, a new streaming service will be entering your pool of potential subscriptions. If you thought you were done with the streaming wars, think again. Quibi, short for “quick bites,” will be a mobile-only platform featuring short form content. Rather than your typical 40 minute episodes that require a TV, a couch, and probably some sort of snack, Quibi will serve up a quick fix of entertainment for all of your on-the-go needs. If you’re not convinced yet, Sophie Turner, Chrissy Tiegen, and Darren Criss have all signed on with their own shows on the platform. So many shows have already been announced, so here’s a sneak peek at what’s to come on Quibi.
The Queen of the North will be returning as a suicidal woman named Jane, who has just survived a plane crash in the new series Survive. Sophie Turner and BlacKkKlansman’s Corey Hawkins will find the will to survive in the story based on Alex Morel’s 2012 novel. Judge Judy meets Chrissy Tiegen in Chrissy’s Court. The loveable social media queen will be presiding over small courts claims, and you can apply to take your case to Judge Chrissy’s court. 50 States of Fright will feature the star-studded cast of Rachel Brosnahan (Marvelous Mrs. Maisel), Asa Butterfield (Sex Education), Christina Ricci, and Travis Fimmel. The horror series will travel across the country to discover the myths of each state, and scare the people who live there.
We’re really excited about the musical comedy, Royalties. The talent of Darren Criss will be starring, producing, and songwriting for the show that goes behind the scenes of a hit-making songwriting duo. Watch as week by week, they write songs for different fictional artists, who happen to be played by real life pop stars. There will also be a reboot of Varsity Blues and a Kevin Kwan (Crazy Rich Asians)-created Empires of Luxury. We have a while to wait for Quibi, but the talent and creativity its gathered will surely be some competition for Netflix and Hulu.
