Bello: What do you think sets Season 3 apart from previous seasons in terms of tone, stakes, or character development?

Anthony: Season 3 feels like we’ve taken the training wheels off emotionally. The tone is still fun and romantic in that XO, Kitty way people love, but the stakes are way more internal this time. It’s less about “who likes who” and more about “who am I actually becoming?” Everyone’s forced to make decisions that don’t have easy, clean answers, and that shift makes the whole season feel a little sharper, a little more grounded.

Bello: How has Q evolved emotionally or personally in Season 3, and what did you enjoy most about exploring that growth?

Anthony: Q’s always been the guy with the perfect playlist and the perfect advice, but this season kind of asks… what happens when he doesn’t have it all together? He’s dealing with things he can’t just joke his way out of. I loved getting to strip back that confidence a bit and find the quieter moments where he’s unsure, or even a little scared. It made him feel more human, and honestly, more like someone I know in real life.

Bello: What was your favorite scene to shoot this season? Or a specific scene that took you out of the shooting norm this season?

Anthony: There’s a scene in episode 5 that’s a lot more still than what we usually do. No big music cues, no chaos, just two people actually talking and sitting in something uncomfortable. It’s the scene in the cab between Q and Dr. Candelaria, his mom. It felt almost like theater, which is something we don’t always get on a show like this. It definitely pulled me out of the usual rhythm, but in the best way. It pushed me to places I knew I’ve always wanted to take Q, and I’m grateful to the writers for that opportunity.

Bello: This season, we finally get more of a backstory on Q with the introduction of his mom. What was it like working with Martha Millan, and how important to you was bringing that backstory to light?

Anthony: Working with Martha Millan was honestly such a gift. She came in with so much warmth and specificity as a Filipina that it instantly grounded Q’s world. Before this, you kind of had to imagine where he came from. Now you actually feel it. That was really important to me, because I always felt like Q had more beneath the surface, and his background is exactly mine. So this season finally lets the audience see that foundation.

Bello: Every year, the show reaches the #1 spot on Netflix’s top 10 list. How has the fan reaction been to the show’s recent season, and their reaction to Q?

Anthony: The fans are so intense in the best way. They’re so invested, and they notice everything. I’ve seen a lot of people connect with Q on a deeper level this season, which means a lot because it means the more vulnerable choices are landing. Also, the memes? Unhinged. The edits? Masterpieces. I love them.

Bello: What will you miss the most from your cast members during your time apart?

Anthony: It’s the random stuff. The late-night food runs, the inside jokes that make zero sense to anyone else, the way we can go from filming something emotional straight into laughing about something stupid five seconds later. There’s this weird little family bubble we live in while we’re shooting, and when it ends, it’s like… wait, where did everyone go?

Bello: Is there something you’ve learned about yourself as an actor working on XO, Kitty, that you will take on in your next project?

Anthony: I’ve learned to trust the quieter choices more. You don’t always need to push a moment for it to land. Sometimes the smallest shift in energy says everything. That’s something I definitely want to carry forward, just letting things breathe a little more and not over-controlling the performance.

XO, Anthony Keyvan
