Lio Tipton | Art of Chaos, and a Career Like No Other
Lio Tipton’s career is nothing short of an odyssey—one that has been defined by reinvention, boldness, and an unapologetic embrace of the unpredictable. This is a performer who has not just dipped their toes into the world of film and television but cannonballed into it with a unique mix of energy, curiosity, and, above all, creativity. Whether in front of the camera or behind it, Lio’s journey is a celebration of transformation, from a budding filmmaker to a beloved artist with roles ranging from physical comedy to dramatic depth. You’d be hard-pressed to find anyone else who embodies the word “chaos” quite as beautifully as they do, yet here they are, gracefully spinning through an industry that thrives on it.
In an exclusive conversation with Lio, they reflect on their multifaceted career, their approach to acting, and the complexities of living in the public eye. With their trademark humor and warmth, they let us in on the artistic and personal journeys that continue to fuel their work.
From Filmmaking Dreams to Acting Stardom
“I actually moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in filmmaking long before modeling or acting entered the picture,” Lio shares. The shift from aspiring filmmaker to sought-after actor was not one they initially expected, but it’s one that they’ve embraced fully. “I have been endlessly motivated by those pursuing the communicative art of imagination. Being a part of a greater machine in storytelling—that’s what drew me to film and television.”
Their passion for the stories behind the stories remains at the core of their work. “The soul and heart of one’s imagination” have always called to them, guiding them as they step into new roles, learn from every set they’re on, and find new ways to share those stories with the world.
The Endless Adventure of Acting
With a body of work that spans genres and tones, from slapstick comedy to gut-wrenching drama, one might assume Lio’s career would come with an easy list of standout roles. But for Lio, every role is its own unique challenge. “I try to find the challenge in every job,” they say, grinning. “Whether it’s figuring out how to communicate a seemingly straightforward scene or how to pretend to text while walking and saying lines—there’s always something new to conquer.”
Their first major film experience, *Crazy, Stupid, Love*, set the tone for their approach to acting. “It was the first time I really worked long days, long scenes, and felt like a moving part in the whole machine,” they recall. The experience helped solidify their belief that kindness is the true magic behind great work. “Kindness goes a long way, and kindness should be directed to all bodies involved.”
Comedy vs. Drama: A Delicate Dance
When asked how they approach their roles, Lio explains that their process is grounded in authenticity. “I always prepare to ‘live’ in the character,” they say. “I want to respond to moments in the most authentic way possible.” But despite sharing this foundation, Lio notes a subtle difference in their approach to comedy versus drama. “Drama is more natural off the cuff for me,” they admit. “Comedy takes much more planning—timing is everything, and sometimes the nature of improv on set is a whole different beast.”
Still, it’s the spontaneous joy of physical comedy that has always captivated them. “What excited me most about Ashley in *Love Hurts* was the opportunity to jump back into physical comedy. I was able to flex that muscle with confidence, something I didn’t have in my early 20s, and it was so much fun seeing where and how much I could push myself.”
Reimagining the Industry
As someone who has publicly navigated the complexities of identity and self-expression, Lio is keenly aware of the ongoing evolution in Hollywood. “I am still learning how to blend my authentic self with my public image,” they confide. But for them, one of the most significant conversations to be had in the industry concerns the language surrounding gender. “The unnecessary gender-specific terminology in Hollywood, like ‘actor’ and ‘actress,’ still remains. I think opening up a dialogue about it is important.”
While Lio continues to explore the intersection of their identity and their career, they’re also mindful of the struggles that come with being in the public eye. “I think everyone who shares deeply personal experiences on a public platform will always have questions,” they say. “The blur between self and character can become overwhelming.”
A New Creative Horizon
Lio’s creativity isn’t confined to acting alone. “Acting work can be elusive,” they explain, “so I find outlets in music, writing, stop-motion, and even theoretical math.” Their mind constantly seeks new creative pursuits, and with their eyes set on both writing and directing, it’s clear that Lio’s future in the industry will be just as multifaceted as their past.
They also have big plans for the future. “I’m very excited about a film I have coming up with the directing team Paul Felton and Joe Donardo,” they say with enthusiasm. Their previous film, *Slow Machine*, was an artistic masterpiece, and they’re eager to dive into another project with such visionary filmmakers.
The Beautiful Chaos of It All
If one word could capture Lio Tipton’s career at this moment, it’s “chaos.” “It is nothing and everything at once,” they muse with a laugh. “And I love every minute.” Whether it’s embracing the uncertainties of acting, pushing the limits of creativity, or challenging the very constructs of Hollywood itself, Lio Tipton is a force in the industry. And for all that they’ve accomplished, they’re just getting started.
In the end, their career is a perfect reflection of the world they inhabit: unpredictable, daring, and endlessly fascinating. So, stay tuned. If Lio Tipton has taught us anything, it’s that chaos isn’t something to be feared—it’s something to celebrate.
