The Pogues are coming home one last time. Outer Banks returns to Netflix on August 20 with its fifth and final season — all 10 episodes dropping at once — closing out one of the streamer’s most watched teen dramas after nearly 200 million views and 25 appearances on Netflix’s Top 10 English TV list across four seasons.
Season 5 picks up in the aftermath of JJ Maybank’s death in the season four finale, a loss that sends the Pogues to their “absolute breaking point.” Stranded in Morocco and stripped of the Blue Crown, the group is boxed in on every side: Chandler Groff is still out there, Dalia and the Corsairs are closing in, and the Kooks are blocking their way home. To survive, they’re forced into an uneasy alliance with Rafe as they fight to reclaim their future and, as the trailer puts it, “avenge their best friend and bring it on home… one final time.”
The cast is back in full: Chase Stokes as John B, Madelyn Cline as Sarah Cameron, Madison Bailey as Kiara, Jonathan Daviss as Pope, Drew Starkey as Rafe, and Carlacia Grant as Cleo, alongside Austin North and Fiona Palomo, with Tony Crane and Cullen Moss stepping up to series regulars. Rudy Pankow’s JJ remains at the emotional center of the season despite his character’s death.
Creators Jonas Pate, Josh Pate, and Shannon Burke have said they’ve known the show’s final scene since the very beginning, calling the ending “bittersweet and surreal” and promising fans “a wild ride” for the send-off. Netflix marked the occasion with “Pogues for Life: A Fan Farewell Event” in Los Angeles on August 15, where attendees got an early look at episode one and the first-ever fan-voted Pogue Awards.
