With every new role, Michael Bradway continues to prove that authenticity is one of his greatest strengths. After making an impression on audiences as Jack Damon in Chicago Fire and stepping onto the big screen in Marked Men, Bradway now embraces one of his most emotionally nuanced performances yet in Every Year After. Playing Charlie Florek, a young man navigating grief, family, loyalty, and the weight of unspoken emotions, he brings a quiet intensity to a character whose journey is as much about what remains unsaid as the words spoken aloud. Every Year After introduces audiences to a deeply emotional and layered story. What was it about Charlie Florek that immediately drew you to the role, and where did you find yourself within him
What drew me to the role was the fact that Charlie can be extremely charming and charismatic on the surface, but he’s also extremely guarded. He cares a lot about his family and is deeply affected by the death of his father.
Charlie carries years of history, loyalty, and unresolved emotions beneath the surface. How did you approach building a character whose strongest moments often come from what he doesn’t say?
It’s a collaboration. I was able to play the subtext because of what was written on the page. Charlie knows what he wants and knows how he feels about the people around him.

Fans first got to know you as Jack Damon on Chicago Fire. Looking back, how did that experience prepare you for stepping into a more emotionally driven role like Every Year After?
I loved being on Chicago Fire. It was the first television show I was a part of, and it felt like a boot camp for me. Everyone on the show, from Taylor Kinney and Miranda Ray Mayo to all of the crew involved, are one big family. You develop true bonds and friendships with these people, especially when you’re all freezing at 6 a.m. in full bunker gear. It was one of the best jobs I’ve ever had.
Every actor has one project that changes the trajectory of their career. Do you feel Chicago Fire, Marked Men, or Every Year After has been that defining moment for you so far, and why?
Wow! that’s a great question. I can’t say one trumps the rest in terms of defining my career thus far. Marked Men was the first, and what a big one it was. Nick Cassavetes directing, and getting to work with Chase Stokes and Alexander Ludwig, was surreal. Chicago Fire was a show my mom watched when I was a kid, so getting to be in it wasn’t just special for me, but for her as well. Every Year After was the first project where I got to take on more of a leadership role, which couldn’t have been possible without the projects that came before.

Relationships are at the heart of Every Year After. What did working on this story teach you about vulnerability, forgiveness, or the complexity of growing up?
It just reiterated how hard it really is growing up. You’re trying to find yourself and figure out what you’re going to do with the rest of your life, and there’s a lot of pressure that comes with that. On top of it all, Charlie and Sam lost their father at a young age. It wasn’t easy for them, and I learned a lot about myself by learning about them.
Your filmography already spans action, romance, and drama. As an actor, do you actively seek roles that challenge different parts of yourself, or do you simply respond to stories that resonate emotionally?
As an actor, I want to play roles in movies and television shows that I personally want to watch. I love adventure, romantic comedies, murder mysteries — there’s so much to explore in this industry, and I want to try it all.

Every set has its own rhythm and creative energy. Which project has pushed you the furthest outside your comfort zone, and what did you discover about yourself in the process?
All of them test you to some degree. Playing someone who isn’t you already pushes you outside of your comfort zone. It’s fun and challenging at the same time.
Audiences are seeing a steady evolution in your career. When you look back at where you started, what aspect of your craft has grown the most over the past few years?
I think everything just starts to slowly grow over time. I really haven’t been working professionally for too long, and I still have so much more to learn and so much more room to grow.

As someone still early in your career but already building an impressive body of work, what kinds of filmmakers, stories, or characters are at the top of your creative wish list?
Being part of the Red Rising series by Pierce Brown is one of the top choices for me. My brother-in-law recommended the books, and I was hooked immediately. It would be an epic adventure to watch on screen.
BELLO celebrates artists who continue to evolve. When people look back on your career years from now, what do you hope they’ll recognize as the defining quality of your work, both on screen and behind the scenes?
When people look back, I hope they simply like the movie or television show. We make art for ourselves, but also for audiences. I love watching older films, and I hope people do the same with the work my generation creates when we’re older.
