Born and raised in Chicago and now based in Los Angeles, Peter Madana is far more than an audio engineer. As a record producer, sound designer, and songwriter, he has collaborated with some of the most recognized names in global music, including Jay Sean, Raghav, Fabolous, and DJ Flipside. With a deep passion for sound, Madana continuously pushes boundaries, creating bold, immersive audio experiences that reflect his distinct artistic vision.
Bello: Creativity often strikes in unexpected ways. Where do you find yourself most inspired, and how do you capture those ideas before they slip away?
Peter Madana: It’s funny, because I often find my creative juices flowing when I’m at least ten thousand feet off the ground. A lot of my ideas come from being in an airplane and traveling the world, finding inspiration everywhere. I always travel with my mobile studio. Once I’m in my seat on the plane, I’ll do a simple setup and begin creating almost instantaneously.
Bello: Every artist has a “why.” What drives your creative process at its core?
PM: The core of my creativity comes from an intention and a need to create at all times. If I’m out, you’ll almost always find me in a corner with my phone, recording voice memos of lyrics or production ideas inspired by the atmosphere around me.
Bello: Can you share a moment when a creative risk completely transformed your work or perspective?
PM: Absolutely. I remember it like it was yesterday. I’m a perfectionist, and I used to struggle with asking for help. One day, in a studio session, I hit a mental block and finally opened up to the people in the room. Someone who had no musical background gave me advice that completely shifted my perspective. That risk—asking for help—made me realize the value of outside perspectives, and it’s helped me grow into a better musician.
Bello: How do you balance staying true to your personal vision with creating work that resonates with an audience?
PM: Honestly, I’m unapologetically myself 100% of the time. I don’t conform to social norms or trends. I don’t look left or right. Art heals my soul, and I hope my vision can heal others’ souls too.
Bello: If your creative journey were a canvas, what colors, textures, or emotions would define it right now?
PM: It’s changed over the years. I tend to re-contextualize my palette every season depending on where I am in the world and what time of year it is. Lately, though, it’s been a lot of flat colors. At the moment, I’d use many hues of grey.
Bello: Looking ahead, what kind of impact do you hope your artistic output leaves?
PM: To be frank, it’s cliché to say, but if my art reaches even one person in a positive way, then I’ve served my purpose. I hope people can relate to my choices and vision, and I hope the next generation feels the same connection to their own creativity.
