Saudi Arabia is set to redefine luxury travel with the introduction of its first five-star rail experience, the “Dream of the Desert.” Scheduled to commence operations in late 2026, this opulent train promises to offer an unparalleled journey through the kingdom’s most breathtaking landscapes and cultural landmarks.
A Journey Like No Other
Embarking from the capital city of Riyadh, the Dream of the Desert will traverse approximately 1,300 kilometers to Al Qurayyat, near the Jordanian border. Along the way, passengers will be treated to panoramic views of the Saudi desert, with stops in regions such as Al Qassim, Hail, and Al Jouf. Notably, the route includes passages through the King Salman bin Abdulaziz Royal Natural Reserve and several UNESCO World Heritage sites, offering travelers an immersive experience into Saudi Arabia’s rich history and natural beauty.
Unmatched Luxury and Design
The train comprises 14 carriages housing 34 luxury suites, accommodating up to 82 passengers. Renowned Lebanese architect Aline Asmar d’Amman has been commissioned to design the interiors, drawing inspiration from traditional Saudi reception areas, known as “majlis.” The design features golden ceilings, velvet banquettes, and intricate timber panels, blending traditional motifs with contemporary elegance. The ambiance reflects the desert’s natural palette, creating a serene yet luxurious environment.
Culinary Excellence and Cultural Enrichment
Onboard, guests can indulge in gourmet dining experiences curated by Michelin-starred chefs, offering a fusion of local and international cuisines. The train will also showcase specially commissioned artworks that celebrate Saudi culture, providing a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. Manufactured in Italy, the train reflects a blend of Italian craftsmanship and Saudi cultural elements.
