Pink is the Vibe in ‘Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies’ Trailer
Grease is one of my all time favorite movies (knowing I do not like musicals, it speaks volume …) I must have watched it every other weekend when I was a teen growing up in France and felt in love with the glam of American-mid-century-retro-style but also felt pretty hard under the spell of John Travolta and Olivia Newton John.
Back in the days, representation was not a hot topic in Hollywood, and as much as I love the original grease I always felt like it would deserve a more contemporary touch to it … the idea of a prequel with today’s sensibility of embracing a multicultural nation and hopefully a more open spectrum of sexual orientations is pretty much my dream come true for Grease.
“Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies” — which takes place in 1954, four years before the original “Grease” film — stars Davila as Jane, Cheyenne Isabel Wells as Olivia, Ari Notartomaso as Cynthia, Tricia Fukuhara as Nancy, Shanel Bailey as Hazel, Madison Thompson as Susan, Johnathan Nieves as Richie, Jason Schmidt as Buddy, Maxwell Whittington-Cooper as Wally and Jackie Hoffman as Asst. Principal McGee. The series is written and executive produced by Annabel Oakes (“Atypical,” “Minx”), who also serves as showrunner and directs one episode. Alethea Jones (“Made for Love,” “Dollface,” “Evil”) directs the first three episodes and executive produces.
New series streaming April 6, 2023.
